Back in the
coziness of a good Colombian breakfast without the cold and the slow motion of
the high camp I can only be grateful to all the people and circumstances that
made possible for me to step on Mckinley’s summit.
First of
all, the people that I loved. I made every step to the mountain thinking in
giving back a little of all the love the have given me. Then the mountain,
probably the god I need. Then the Epopeya team. All of them, the leader, the achiever,
the teacher, the cool photographer, the porter/climber and the chef/guide. They
embraced me in their group and every zip of water, every bite of rice and
specially every word of encouragement they
gave me were crucial for my attitude. Builes
with his clarity, Nelson and his patience and la Perca (Carlos Gustavo), my
partner and friend, with his tent’s sewing and his tolerance with my awkwardness using
snowshoe. Thanks everyone.
In effect
we leave for high camp the morning of June 3th together with the Epopeya Team.
The whole team made it to high camp (5600 msn) that day, however the thumbs of
Builes were killing him. Also, the short time we spent gaining 2000 meters May 31st (3200msn)
and June 3th (5600msn) were a risk giving the experience of La Perca’s previous
edemas. They two stayed at high camp. So,
the morning of June 4th, when Ruiz said that we had to go to summit at 6am,
only Cuevas and me joined the Epopeya
team. In fact at 3pm we reached the summit. Piqui (one leg achiever) at the front of the group so
Montejo (cool photographer) will get the key shots for the Epopeya expedition. Nelson and me at the
end of the group. Long walk, short story. Good weather fantastic summit.
Probably
this blog will die this year. Nadie nos quita lo bailado-.
Gracias.
